Frequently asked questions
What the numbers on this site are, what they are not, and where they come from.
Where do the prices come from?
Currency, gold and crypto prices come from the Binance exchange, silver from xaus.com, and the official rates from the daily bulletin of the Central Bank of Türkiye (TCMB). Each instrument's page names its source.
Prices refresh every 15 seconds and you never need to reload — while the connection is open, changes arrive on their own.
Why is gram gold different from the jeweller's price?
Because two different things are being measured. Gram gold here is a reference value: the dollar price of an ounce, multiplied by the dollar rate and divided by the grams in an ounce (31.1035).
A jeweller's price adds workmanship and the buy-sell spread on top; it is usually one or two per cent higher and varies from shop to shop. For the same reason the coin prices on this site are marked as computed — a computed value is not a shop price, and a wrong number that looks like a price is worse than no number.
What does the ƒ mark next to a price mean?
That the value is not observed directly but computed. Euro / Lira, for instance, is the product of euro-dollar and dollar-lira; gram gold is derived from the ounce. It is not a price traded under that name on any exchange.
How do you price the quarter, half and full gold coins?
The dollar price of an ounce times the dollar/lira rate gives gram gold; the coins are computed from it with the mint's own weight and fineness. A quarter is 1.75 grams at 916 fineness; the half and the full coin are two and four times that. So the quarter price here is what the fine gold inside it is worth today.
A jeweller's price differs, and that is normal: workmanship is added when they sell, a spread is deducted when they buy. The gold calculator totals what you hold in one go.
How far back do the historical prices go?
Daily closes begin in November 2023 for most instruments. Silver's are younger, because its source was added later and has no archive to fill from — which is why the chart's "All" tab is short for silver, and the page says when its record began.
On every instrument's page you can ask for the close on a given date, look up when a level was last seen, and open the last thirty closes as a table. A close is the day's last observation; the day ends on Istanbul time.
Can I add the economic calendar to my own calendar?
Yes. The "Add to my calendar" button on the calendar page subscribes your phone's or computer's calendar to this list — it does not download a copy. The difference matters: when a central bank moves a meeting, a copy stays wrong and a subscription updates by itself.
Why is the dollar rate here different from my bank's?
The rate on this site comes from the dollar pair on a crypto exchange and sits close to the live open-market price. Your bank applies its own buy-sell spread, and the central bank publishes an official rate once a day. All three are correct; all three answer different questions.
The number a contract, an invoice or a tax return needs is the central bank's official rate; we show it in its own box at the bottom of the front page, with its date.
How do alerts work?
Setting alerts is for Premium members. Go to an instrument's page and enter the level you want to watch and the direction (crosses above / falls below); when the price reaches it, we send a notification.
An alert fires once; to watch the same level again, set it again. Even without notification permission the record is not lost — fired alerts land in your inbox.
Do notifications reach my phone?
Yes — if you allow notifications in your browser, they arrive even with the site closed. We ask for the permission only when you set your first alert; nobody wants to grant notifications to a site they have not yet seen.
A notification travels through the browser maker's server and is encrypted; it carries only the title, one line of text and the link to open. If you would rather not grant notification permission, we can send the same text — a fired alert, the morning brief — to the e-mail address on your account instead — the switch is on your account page.
What does Premium give me?
The free plan has every price, three-year charts and comparison, past-date and level lookup, the gold calculator, the converter, official rates, the economic calendar (you can subscribe from your own calendar), the chart pattern glossary and the blog — these stay free. Premium unlocks price alerts, holdings tracking and the subscriber-only market analyses.
Payments are not switched on yet; Premium access is granted by hand for now. Details on the Premium page.
If I enter my holdings, who can see them?
Only you. The amounts you enter are tied to your account; no other member and no administrator can read them — that is written into the server's access table.
What they are worth is never stored anywhere. The database holds only the amount and — if you entered it — your purchase price; the total is computed in your browser every time, from the current price. Your net worth exists nowhere once you close the page.
What is the morning brief?
For Premium members, one notification every morning around 09:00 Istanbul time: the current price and 24-hour change of the instruments you starred. If you starred nothing, you get the dollar, the euro, gram gold and Bitcoin. No commentary, direction or suggestion; the board as it stood that morning. You switch it on and off from your account page; it lands in your inbox too.
Where is the monthly average rate?
On every instrument's page, in the Monthly and yearly summary table under the chart. For each month and year it lists the average, lowest, highest and last close of the daily closes on record and the change against the period before; the running period is marked, and its figures move until it ends. The average is computed from our own record and, because the source and the day count differ, will not match the central bank's published monthly average exactly.
Is this investment advice?
No. This site shows prices and tells you when a level you set is reached. It produces no forecast, signal or steer about which asset will go where.
Published posts and analyses are commentary; the responsibility for any decision to buy or sell is yours. Investment advice is a service given by licensed institutions and tailored to a person; nothing here falls within it.
For the same reason we mark no patterns on our charts. The pattern glossary teaches what the shapes mean; it never says "this one is forming here" about any instrument.
Can I delete my account and my data?
Yes. Which data is kept, why, and for how long is on the privacy page. You need not write to anyone to delete it: the button on your account page permanently deletes your alerts, holdings, watchlist, notifications and profile, closes your account and tells you how many records went. It cannot be undone. If a payment was taken, its billing records stay for the legal retention period.
If you want a copy first, the Download my data button on the same page gives you all of it as one JSON file.
The prices are free, so why is there a paid membership?
Looking at prices is free and will stay free. What you pay for is the server that looks on your behalf: your alerts are compared with the price thousands of times a day, a notification goes to your phone when one fires, a summary is prepared every morning. That runs on a machine that is always on, and it has a cost.
Can I leave whenever I want?
Yes, in one step and without questions. The period you paid for stays yours: your access runs to the end of it and the next period is not charged.
Do my card details reach you?
No. When payment opens, card details are taken on the payment provider's own page; all we receive is that the payment was made. Payment is not open yet and memberships are granted by hand.
Will you tell me which asset to move into?
No. We do not produce forecasts, signals or targets about what any asset does next — not for premium members either. The analyses describe what happened and the mechanics behind it, not what will happen. The decision and the responsibility are yours.
What happens to my alerts when my membership ends?
The alerts you set are not deleted; you keep seeing and removing them. They simply stop working, and no new ones can be set. When you subscribe again the same alerts carry on from where they were.
Do notifications really arrive with the site closed?
Yes. If you give your browser notification permission, a notification arrives encrypted through the browser vendor's server even with the site closed. We ask for the permission when you set your first alert. Every fired alert also lands in your inbox on the site, so nothing is lost if you decline.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, 7 days. No card, nothing renews; when it ends your membership returns to the free plan and the alerts you set stop but are not deleted. Once per account.
